This year, Futurpreneur Canada (formerly CYBF) is celebrating our 20th anniversary, and to celebrate, we are taking a walk down memory lane to revisit some of the amazing entrepreneur we have helped over the years.

Throughout the last two decades, we’ve awarded many awards to our entrepreneurs and mentors, as well as seen them take home hardware themselves, so I chatted with three of our past Futurpreneur (then CYBF) award winners to see where they (and their businesses) are today.

Jason Moniz

Jason Moniz, South Sherbrook Therapy Inc.
2008 CYBF Provincial Best Business Award (Prairies)

About:
South Sherbrook Therapy Inc. is a multi-disciplinary clinic that offers primarily athletic therapy and physiotherapy, but also offers massage therapy, dietitian services and sports medicine.

Where are they now?
Since I won the award there has been a steady improvement in our business. Financially we have increased revenue each year subsequently until the present date. This has been done by expanding our services. I recently have been approached to do occupational testing for a company out of Alberta. We also grew in physical size. I renovated the basement (approximately 3700 sq. feet) to offer personal training and boot camps, which gives me the opportunity to take some of my higher level athletes downstairs and give them more room to rehab their injuries. I have also recently hired a part-time athletic therapist.

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
Recently hitting our 10 year mark is exciting. It tells me we’re a part of the area and that we provide a good service. I love the fact that I’ve created a few jobs over the years as well.

What does the future have in store for your business?
Ideally a second location or expansion of our fitness side would be great.

Genevieve

Geneviève Gagnon, La fourmi bionique Inc.
2007 CYBF Chairman’s Award

About:
Fourmi Bionique is a gourmet granola and snack product manufacturer that has been in business since 2004. They source all their ingredients from organic, local and fair trade suppliers. Their products are available nationwide in over a thousand outlets as well as in France in high-end gourmet shops.

Where are they now?
Our business has evolved from eight employees to now 16 and our sales are now across Canada instead of only selling in Quebec. Our product offering has grown from 8 skus to 18 skus and our revenues have also substantially increased.

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
Keeping a certain level of control over the business while giving birth to two children, one in 2013 and the other in 2015. It’s been a difficult accomplishment to reach a certain balance between my professional and family realities but I have survived the transition, successfully, I believe.

What does the future have in store for your business?
We will grow the brand and point of sales outside of Québec and eventually cross the border to the United States. We will also keep expanding the product line.

Bryan

Bryan Shopka, Resolve Health Partners
2009 CYBF Best Business Award

About:
Resolve Health Partners is primarily a physiotherapy clinic, which also offers massage therapy, acupuncture and Pilates. What makes them unique is their one-on-one private treatment rooms thus giving the patient one-on-one care they need to resolve their musculoskeletal concerns.

Where are they now?
Our business has changed mostly in size since we started back in 2006. We started off with just two therapists. By the time we received the award we were up to three physiotherapists and one massage therapist. Now we have a total of five physiotherapists and one massage therapist. What we are proud of is the fact that during this time we have continued to keep our service at a high level of quality. To date we have resisted the trend of other clinics attempting to maximize volume by utilizing curtained off treatment areas. We still and always will only utilize private treatment rooms and only offer one-on-one service.

What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
Our biggest accomplishment so far is reaching our ten year milestone.

What does the future have in store for your business?
We are moving our clinic a very short block away into a newly developed medical building.  Here we hope to continue to foster relationships with other medical practitioners to further our desire for a more collaborative approach to patient care.

Futurpreneur is so happy to watch so many young entrepreneurs businesses grow and succeed. Congrats on the many years of success to Bryan, Jason and Genevieve and cheers to many more.
