Entrepreneurship is in Noémie and Manuel Desrochers’ blood. The brother and sister team are the third generation of Montréal-based business owners in their family, following in the footsteps of their grandfather, father and uncle. Launching their own company wasn’t a question of “if,” it was a matter of “when.”
Growing up in the family business of hydroponics, working with water seemed inevitable. After spending years studying and working in water filtration, Manuel was inspired to find a way to combine a filtration process that make tap water taste great while incorporating a chic design, therefore helping to reduce the number of plastic water bottles ending up in landfills. Together with Noémie’s experience in marketing, the two launched AQUAOVO Experience Inc. in 2007, designing and distributing drinking water filtration systems around the world.
With the success of AQUAOVO, and their background in entrepreneurship, Manuel and Noémie urge others to “go for it: love it, live it and don’t give up, even in the hardest of times,” adding that new businesses are what makes the Canadian economy stronger.
“Entrepreneurship helps Canada bring out talent, ideas and innovation that would otherwise be wasted,” says Noémie. “It creates jobs, strengthens the economy, brings new skills, trends and products to the marketplace and helps build communities.”
