The Canadian Youth Business Foundation has selected 30 dynamic young Canadian entrepreneurs to form the official Canadian delegation at the G20 Young Entrepreneur Summit (G20 YES) in Nice, France on October 31-November 2, 2011. The G20 YES is an annual international summit that brings together dedicated and influential entrepreneurs of the G20 countries. Kassandra Linklater is a Canadian delegate.

  • My motto: Will Smith once said, “being realistic is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity;” which is a concept I have applied to all facets of my life. My feverous tenacity, endless curiosity, and utter determinism have created who I am today. Quite simply, as an aspiring entrepreneur, activist for community engagement, and fulltime politics junkie, I strive to take the less traveled road, to blaze a trail for young leaders, and am driven by the notion that all of us are better than any one of us.

Why I became an entrepreneur:

Having over six years of international trade and development experience including creating partnerships for companies abroad in South East Asia/South America, and creating/presenting Canada’s Investment strategy at APEC CEO Summit in 2006; I knew that I belonged on the other side of the equation. I realized I had an innate need to build my own enterprise.

With five years for coaching creative branding and narrative development for students looking to excel in post-secondary whether it is scholarships, university applications, or just getting the experience they need success in the future, I knew that education was the most natural step.

I felt compelled to help students find their “YOU” factor, assist them with the confusing transition process between high school and university, as well as leverage their experiences once they got there. And that was how UConfidential.com was born.

My best moment as an entrepreneur, my success:

Discovering that I was a wolf in sheep’s clothing by far was the most rewarding moment of my career as an entrepreneur. To clarify, I woke up and realized that political science was my passion, but creating an enterprise, fulfilling a need, and championing my vision was the ultimate goal.

And the day we got our incorporation papers, because as Sinatra said, “the best is yet to come”.

My next challenge:

As we get ready to launch UConfidential.com, we aim to be the premier online destination in Canada for helping high school students transition to university. In future, we aim to expand to emerging markets, with the intent to promote Canadian institutions abroad.

My personal plans in the future range from pursuing an MBA, mastering the art of a great guitar solo, establishing a top government strategy firm, becoming a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, inspiring youth to create change in their communities, traveling to every continent, creating successful companies, and most simply, making every moment matter.
