April Glavine is not the “stand by and watch it happen” type of woman. When she’s aware of an issue, she addresses it.

Upon returning to Canada after living in Spain and New Zealand, April observed how obesity was a growing concern for Canadians, especially children. She set out to address the issue by opening Lean Machine Healthy Vending Service Inc., which stocks vending machines with healthy snacks and beverages, from dried nuts to soy milk. She wanted to assist her community in becoming a healthier place and ensure children understood the importance of nutrition.

Each year, Lean Machine creates new and interesting initiatives to carve a permanent place in the health conscious marketplace. These efforts were recognized this past year with the Small Business of the Year award from the Halifax Chamber of Commerce.
