Recruiting for growth
Rose-Marie Almond, Cobourg, Ontario, CYBF Young Entrepreneur & Mentor
Every organisation reaches a point where they have to consider bringing more people onboard to help the business grow. Three key things to consider when you reach this stage are:
1. Is recruiting necessary?
The most common reason for recruiting is a lack of time. Consider how you currently do things; is there anything you can change to improve business efficiency that will cost less than new staff?
2. Are you recruiting the right people?
Finding the people who have both the skills and personality you need to grow your business is tricky. Aim to recruit positive people who will add value to the organisation. Using a variety of methods to look beyond the resume will help you get the people who best fit your business.
3. Can you outsource?
Sometimes it’s cheaper to outsource for specific skills. Whilst they won’t know your business inside out, you only pay for the time it takes them to do the job. This helps you keep more cash in the business, which is critical for strong growth.
