Giving back helps push you forward

What sets you apart from the competitor so that your customer chooses your product or service? If you’re not including social responsibility as part of your business plan, then you might already be losing customers.

Consumers today are more knowledgeable and savvy than ever before. With the use of the internet, social media, blogs and ratings, consumers can easily critique products and services. This helps them make choices that best suit their needs AND their values.

Understanding the values of your target market may help you create solid socially responsible business practices. For instance, if your target market is parents, then you may want to provide sponsorship for a children’s group fundraiser, donate a portion of your proceeds to a local children’s charity or even volunteer your time. These are ways to give back.

There are other socially responsible business practices as well, like fair trade, going green or being organic. As a business owner, you must build your business in such a way that embraces your customers’ values. Then, you can watch them make the better choice….YOU!
