Kevin Alto, Co-Founder, Alto Collective

Starting and running your own business is a very emotional endeavor– it takes a lot both physically and mentally.

Since it was just my brother and me that started Alto Collective, the company and the products we make are essentially an extension of ourselves, which raises the emotional game even more.  We eat sleep and breathe Alto Collective because we are Alto Collective.  This naturally raises one obvious question… where does work end and life begin?

For the first two and a half years we didn’t have a great balance.  The natural ebbs and flows typical for a start-up have been present and equally as dramatic for us; the highest of highs and the lowest of lows, we experienced it all.  When things are so volatile, sometimes all we were focused on was surviving, the whole concept of a healthy lifestyle put on hold.

A little over three years since we started, we have found our rhythm and finally have the capacity to integrate some healthier choices.  I have recently gone one step further by analyzing my morning routine so that I can maximize each and every day.  I would highly recommend reading a book called “The Power of Habit” by Charles Duhigg.  The work we do will continue to occupy a large percentage of our time which is why developing healthy habits and routines are critical to maximize our potential and also allow us to participate in that thing called life, with the people we love.

About Alto Collective:

Located in Calgary, Canada; Alto Collective is owned and operated by two brothers; Kevin and Owen Alto (left and right respectively).  With degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Science, we are so grateful to have chosen this unconventional career path 3 short/long years ago.  There have been many ups and downs, but whenever the dust settles, we always appreciate just how rewarding it is to be able to create products that so many people are using and loving every single day.
