Get in the Ring is a start-up pitch competition founded by the Netherlands-based Erasmus Centre for Entrepreneurship. Futurpreneur Canada hosted the Canadian round of this competition, calling for young entrepreneurs to enter with a video pitching their business. From the multiple submissions that were received, only five finalists were chosen by the 18 representatives from Canada’s entrepreneurship community that made up our judging panel.

These five finalists will move on to compete at the Regional Finals in Kansas City during Global Entrepreneurship Week. These start-ups will be competing against start-ups from the United States and Mexico. The winner of Regional Finals will then move on to compete at the international level in the Netherlands.

We are proud to announce the five finalists that will be representing Canada:

Asif Khan, Maieutic (Waterloo, ON)
A common source of inefficiency and cost overruns in manufacturing is imprecision and wear in industrial dies and surfaces. Maieutic’s solution is a surface which can form a variety of persistent shapes to represent three-dimensional information, which will significantly improve manufacturing efficiency and productivity.

Tariq Fancy, The Rumie Initiative (Toronto, ON)
The Rumie Initiative is a non-profit organization on a mission to bring free digital educational content to the world’s underprivileged children.

Jenviev Azzolin, pplconnect (Montreal, QC)
pplconnect is a free app which lets you access and use your smartphone from any web-enabled device.

Bryce North, Advolve Media (Winnipeg, MB)
Advolve Media provides custom-designed mirrors to match your venue while providing an interactive and new way to communicate with your guests.

Heather Abbey, (Saskatoon, SK) is an e-commerce site created for Indigenous Artisans. has 26 categories and subcategories for sellers to post in, such as regalia, beadwork, starblankets, etc. The site has seen sales to Egypt, Finland, Australia, Canada, and the USA in the first seven months.
