In December 2019, the ThriveNorth program successfully completed its five-year mandate. Managed by Futurpreneur Canada, the program helped young entrepreneurs in Northern B.C. launch and grow their businesses by connecting them with resources, financing and mentorship.

Let’s face it – starting a business is daunting.

It can be even tougher for women to take the leap into entrepreneurship. For instance, a lack of female mentors can be a big barrier for women looking to set off on their own. The ThriveNorth Project has been helping to address this by connecting with and supporting young aspiring entrepreneurs in Northwestern B.C. in bringing their business ideas to life.

“The ThriveNorth Project has had the honour of working with so many incredible women entrepreneurs,” says Katy Carr, ThriveNorth Community Coordinator. “From all sectors, over 50% of our entrepreneurs are women and we have seen them support the growth and expansion of their communities.”

“Their dedication to making it happen and supporting other women – and men – around them doing the same is what makes a community,” adds Joanne Norris, ThriveNorth Project Manager.

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we thought we’d share some inspiring messages from some of the incredible women entrepreneurs ThriveNorth has supported over the past few years.

If you’re looking to start a business someday, these words should give you the inspiration you need to make it happen.

“Go for it! Take things one step at a time and before you know it, everything will come together and fall into place. Also, mental health and self-care are important, so work hard and play just as hard!”

Be authentic. You can’t go wrong by doing what you truly love to do in a way that feels good to you. Speak your truth and the ones who align with you will find you. Honesty and authenticity really resonate with people and in the end, you will feel so much better than if you had lowered your values just to appeal to the masses.”
