Futurpreneur Canada 20th Anniversary Awards Terms and Conditions

Futurpreneur Canada is pleased to present the 20th Anniversary Awards program (“Awards”), celebrating the success of entrepreneurs whose passion, determination and ideas are driving Canada’s economy forward.  There will be one award winner in each of the following categories:

  • 20th Anniversary Entrepreneur Award
  • 20th Anniversary Beyond Borders Award
  • 20th Anniversary Grit Award

Full details on each award and eligibility requirements can be found inside the application package.

The Awards are governed by the terms and conditions set out below. By entering the Awards, you agree to abide by those terms and conditions, and the decisions of Futurpreneur Canada in this competition You also agree to comply with all applicable laws.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

1.  Awards Period 

The Awards application period runs from March 24, 2016 to April 27,2016 at 11:59pm EST. Entries must be received by Futurpreneur Canada within that period to be eligible, via the Kira Talent platform.

The Awards winners will be advised of winning on or around Friday, May 13, 2016.

2.  How to Enter

It is solely your responsibility to ensure that your application is properly registered as described above. Futurpreneur Canada will not be responsible for any lost, delayed, misdirected, illegible, incomplete, damaged or undeliverable applications, or any delay or failure to transmit, process, receive or consider applications.

Please do not submit your application multiple times. Applications submitted multiple times will be disqualified.

By submitting to the Awards, Futurpreneur Canada reserves the right to use any application content, photo, logo and any other submitted information (with the exception of the online applicant videos), for promotional, marketing, publicity and all other purposes as deemed by Futurpreneur Canada.

3.  Eligibility —Applicants

The Awards are available to individuals who have received funding from Futurpreneur Canada to start a business since 1996, and whose loan accounts are either paid in full or in good standing.  You are considered eligible for the Awards if at the time of entry: you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada; AND you are the owner, CEO or CEO-equivalent of a private or public company that is registered in Canada; AND you have no criminal record. Additional eligibility requirements for individual awards are detailed below.

Futurpreneur Canada 20th Anniversary Entrepreneur Award

This award recognizes an entrepreneur who has experienced outstanding success after starting or buying a business with the support of Futurpreneur Canada (formerly known as Canadian Youth Business Foundation). We’re looking for businesses that have excelled in at least one of the following areas: financial performance, industry disruption, growth/expansion, job creation, community involvement and leadership.

Eligibility Requirements

Evaluation Criteria 

  • Be a living Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Be the owner, CEO or CEO-equivalent of a private or public company that is registered and headquartered in Canada;
  • Must be the founder of the business or have had a large impact on a business they acquired;
  • Be primarily responsible for the company’s day-to-day management and financial performance;
  • Be a recipient of Futurpreneur Canada funding (or, CYBF funding);
  • Have repaid the Futurpreneur Canada loan in full OR be active and in good-standing with their current loan; and
  • Be able to provide at least one year of financials if chosen as a finalist.
  • Does the entrepreneur’s business have a track-record of strong financial performance?
  • How did the entrepreneur leverage the resources provided by Futurpreneur Canada to start, buy or grow their business?
  • How has the entrepreneur demonstrated leadership to drive their businesses success?
  • How has the entrepreneur defined and implemented the vision for their business?
  • How does the entrepreneur demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit?

Grit Award

This award celebrates the kind of business success that comes from having “true grit”. We’re looking for entrepreneurs who have used creativity and ingenuity to overcome challenges, demonstrated resiliency when faced with failure and whose sheer determination to succeed make them inspiring role models for other young entrepreneurs.

Eligibility Requirements

Evaluation Criteria

  • Be a living Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Be the owner, CEO or CEO-equivalent of a private or public company that is registered and headquartered in Canada;
  • Must be the founder of the business or have had a large impact on a business they acquired;
  • Be primarily responsible for the company’s day-to-day management and financial performance;
  • Be a recipient of Futurpreneur Canada funding (or, CYBF funding).

 

  • What is a large obstacle or challenge that the entrepreneur has faced when starting, buying or growing a business?
  • How did the entrepreneur respond to that challenge?
  • What did the entrepreneur learn from dealing with that challenge?
  • How is the entrepreneur applying what they learned from dealing with that challenge to their current work life?

 

 

Beyond Borders Award

This award recognizes an entrepreneur who has successfully expanded a business into new markets and has seen substantial business growth as a result. We’re looking for an entrepreneur who wasn’t afraid to face the risk and challenges associated with expansion, and whose business growth is creating value, such as bringing a key product or service to a new market or creating jobs.

Eligibility Requirements

Evaluation Criteria

  • Be a living Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
  • Be the owner, CEO or CEO-equivalent of a private or public company that is registered and headquartered in Canada;
  • Must be operating their business in new locations outside of their original market, either nationally or internationally;
  • Must be the founder of the business or have had a large impact on a business they acquired;
  • Be primarily responsible for the company’s day-to-day management and financial performance;
  • Have repaid the Futurpreneur Canada loan in full OR be active and in good-standing with their current loan; and
  • Be able to provide at least one year of financials if chosen as a finalist.

 

  • How has the entrepreneur expanded their business into new markets?
  • What have been some challenges in expanding into a new market and how did the entrepreneur respond to that challenge?
  • What have been the financial and business results of expanding into new markets?
  • Does that entrepreneur have any current plans for further expansion?

 

Futurpreneur Canada employees and their immediate families (i.e. their spouses, siblings, children, spouses’ parents, and the spouses of any of those individuals) and their household members (related or not) are not eligible to enter the Awards.

At any time and at its own discretion, Futurpreneur Canada may disqualify any entrant who: does not meet the Awards’ eligibility criteria, fails to comply with these terms and conditions, attempts to enter the Awards in any manner or through any means other than as described in these terms and conditions, attempts to disrupt the Awards or attempts to circumvent any of these terms and conditions.

4.  Winner Selection

Winners will be selected by a committee of judges.  Candidate applications will be evaluated based on the quality of their video application using a weighted scoring grid.

If selected as a finalist, candidates will be required to share at least one year of financials for further evaluation. Finalists will also be required to permit Futurpreneur Canada to include their photo and details of their award pitch on the Futurpreneur Canada 20th Anniversary website.

Winner selection will be finalized by May 18, 2016 and announced publicly at the 2016 Action Entrepreneurship National Summit on May 31, 2016.

5.  Award Recipient Compliance with Terms and Conditions

The Winners must have complied with, and remain in compliance with, these terms and conditions, as found on www.futurpreneur.ca, and must sign and deliver to Futurpreneur Canada (within two (2) days of Futurpreneur Canada’s request) a standard declaration and release form (which will include a declaration of the entrants’ compliance with these terms and conditions, an acceptance of the mention as awarded, a liability release) and any other documentation that Futurpreneur Canada may require. If the Winner does not sign and deliver the required documents to Futurpreneur Canada within two (2) days of Futurpreneur Canada’s request, the next highest scoring candidate will replace said candidate as the winner.

Futurpreneur Canada may request valid proof of identity, residency, and other relevant documentation, and Futurpreneur Canada may disqualify an entrant if Futurpreneur Canada determines (at its sole discretion) that the provided proof is not sufficient.

If the award notification is returned as undeliverable or not reachable by telephone, or if a selected entrant does not comply with all of the above requirements within the above time frames, or does not otherwise comply with these terms and conditions, the entrant will be disqualified and Futurpreneur Canada will select a replacement entrant. The process will continue until three Winners are confirmed. This cannot be refuted after the fact.

6.  Awards

  • An invitation to Futurpreneur Canada’s Action Entrepreneurship National Summit on May 30 and 31, 2016 (with travel and accommodation included). The Summit includes opportunities for attending workshops, networking and attending an awards lunch.
  • Prominence in a national press release, including background information about the recipient’s accomplishments.
  • Visibility on the Futurpreneur Canada Web site.
  • A profile on Futurpreneur Canada’s blog.
  • A trophy recognizing the entrepreneur’s business as the recipient of one of the 20th Anniversary Awards.

7. Futurpreneur Canada Responsibilities

  • Provide Winners with all necessary documents that need to be completed.
  • Provide travel and accommodation to the Summit, as well as entry to the Action Entrepreneurship National Summit on May 30 and 31, 2016.
  • Provide winners with a trophy recognizing the entrepreneur’s business.
  • Include the winner in a blog post profile and on Futurpreneur Canada’s website, as well as in a national press release.

8. Winner Role and Responsibilities

  • Attend the National Summit to accept the award at the awards lunch.
  • Respond to Futurpreneur Canada staff requests for information pertaining to promoting and marketing the award winners.

9.  Cancellation

If for any reason Futurpreneur Canada cannot run the Awards as planned (including as a result of bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, infection by computer virus or any other cause that corrupts, impairs or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Awards) Futurpreneur Canada may cancel, modify, extend or suspend the Awards. In that event, Futurpreneur Canada may make fewer or no awards.

Futurpreneur Canada may also disqualify any individual who tampers with or in any way corrupts the entry or voting process, or who attempts to undermine the legitimate operation of the Awards by cheating, hacking, deception, or other unfair practices, or by attempting to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other entrants or Futurpreneur Canada representatives.

10.  Publicity

Except where otherwise prohibited by law, participation in the Awards constitutes an applicant’s consent to Futurpreneur Canada’s use of the winners’ name, hometown, image/likeness, province, photo or other information for promotional purposes without further notification, permission, payment or consideration.

11.  Disclaimers, Liability, and Indemnification

All participants, applicants, entrants and winners  agree that they remain fully and solely responsible for any and all personal and business representations, decisions and obligations. Advice or assistance provided  by Futurpreneur Canada and/or Futurpreneur Canada employees is to be taken at the participants’ discretion.

Futurpreneur is not responsible for: (1) incorrect or inaccurate transcription of entry information or late, lost, incomplete, misdirected entries, or entries received through impermissible or illegitimate channels; (2) technical failures of any kind, including without limitation the malfunctioning of any telephone, computer, network, hardware or software; (3) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any service; (4) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Awards; (5) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Awards or the processing of entries; or (6) any injury or damage to persons or property, including without limitation your computer or cell phone, which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from your participation in the Awards or from downloading any material from Futurpreneur Canada’s website.

Futurpreneur Canada will not be liable to you for any indirect, special, consequential, or punitive damages in connection with the Awards or these rules.

Futurpreneur Canada will not cover any costs associated with participation in the Awards other than those listed for winners of the awards.

By participating in these Awards, you release and agree to indemnify and hold harmless Futurpreneur Canada and its employees, directors, officers, affiliates, agents, sponsors, partners, judges and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind resulting from your participation in these Awards or receipt or use of any prize.

By participating in these Awards, you further agree to indemnify and hold harmless Futurpreneur Canada and its employees, directors, officers, members, affiliates, agents, sponsors, partners, judges and advertising and promotional agencies from any and all damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions or losses of any kind (including actual legal fees and expenses) arising from or related to: (a) your failure to comply with any of these terms and conditions; (b) any misrepresentation you make under these terms and conditions or otherwise to Futurpreneur Canada; or (c) your participation in the Awards.

12.  Personal Information

You consent to Futurpreneur Canada using and disclosing your personal information for the purposes of administering the Awards; advertising the Awards and any future Awards and any of Futurpreneur Canada’s services; and for the other purposes described in these terms and conditions.
