B.C. GOVERNMENT EQUIPS THRIVENORTH INITIATIVE WITH ABILITY TO DELIVER VITAL PROGRAMMING IN 2019

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VANCOUVER, CANADA – APRIL 11th, 2018 – ThriveNorth, a Futurpreneur Canada initiative, is pleased to announce the Government of British Columbia’s investment of over $300,000 to continue to deliver vital programming in 2019.

The ThriveNorth initiative provides Indigenous and other rural youth in Northern B.C. with comprehensive entrepreneurial awareness. Throughout the program, youth are equipped with skills training and additional staged resources to move them towards launching successful new businesses.

“This contribution from the British Columbia government enables the ThriveNorth program the ability to support a business sector development project in the partnerships stream,” said Joanne Norris, Project Manager for the ThriveNorth Initiative. “It’s through investments like that this that Futurpreneur is able to contribute to shared prosperity in more rural, remote and Indigenous communities across Northern British Columbia.”

The investment will echo the initiative’s mandate to continue to support economic development and diversification. In doing so, ThriveNorth will effectively be able to engage with, attract and retain interested youth while developing and maintaining meaningful partnerships.

“The government is following through on its commitment to help rural communities navigate changes that have impacted local economies, by supporting local business development and creating new partnerships to promote shared prosperity,” said Doug Donaldson, B.C. Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development. “These rural dividend grants are bringing positive change to rural communities throughout B.C.”

This funding is part of nearly $8M in 58 project grants being award to eligible local governments, First Nations and not-for-profit organizations through the B.C. Rural Dividend Program. Rural dividend grants help fund projects that will stabilize rural economies.
