INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2018: A STATEMENT FROM FUTURPRENEUR CANADA

With a strong call to #PressforProgress, Futurpreneur Canada™ stands with the global movement to strive for women equality.

TORONTO, CANADA – MARCH 8TH, 2018 – International Women’s Day 2018 is an opportunity to commit to the collective action needed to drive gender parity which, according to the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report, is over 200 years away. Futurpreneur Canada is playing its role in the growing global movement to advance equality by helping aspiring women entrepreneurs to realize their dreams and potential.

“Each year 40 per cent of the more than 1,000 businesses launched by 18-39 year-old clients of Futurpreneur are owned, operating and led by incredible young women,” said Futurpreneur Canada CEO Julia Deans. “This organization gives women an amazing and gender-inclusive platform on which to build their skills and confidence to play their full role in the economy and in their communities.”

The battle for gender equality in the Canadian workforce is far from over. A recent report released by UN Women renewed the call to action to fight for the rights of females, especially those engaged in economic activities.

According to Statistics Canada, only 16% of entrepreneurs in our country are female. In a predominantly male ecosystem, Futurpreneur commits to changing the face of entrepreneurship, one woman at a time.

“Our mentors can support you in overcoming your fears and embolden you for the launch of your business,” said Futurpreneur Mentor-in-Residence, Linda Morana. “The Futurpreneur program is internationally recognized for long-term mentoring support and people who take advantage of it allow themselves the opportunity to grow their businesses and have a system in place for any unforeseen issues they may not have accounted for.”

International Women’s Day is not specific to any one country, group or organization – the day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. Futurpreneur stands firmly hand in hand with all those recognizing this monumental day. In doing so, we will continue to create opportunities that support women to help them bring their entrepreneurial dreams to life.
