New funding will increase job and entrepreneurial opportunities for youth

The Ontario budget tabled last week had some welcome news for Ontario youth and young entrepreneurs. The province’s government announced a two-year, $295-million youth Jobs Strategy to create 30,000 new jobs, a move that was applauded by the Canadian youth Business Foundation (CYBF). As part of its youth Entrepreneurship Strategy, the province will invest $195-million in a youth Employment Fund; $45-million in a youth Entrepreneurship Fund; $30-million in a youth Innovation Fund; and $25-million in a Business-Labour Connectivity and Training Fund. “The Ontario government is affirming and deepening its commitment to help young entrepreneurs create businesses and jobs in their communities,” said Julia deans, CYBF’s chief executive. The youth unemployment rate in the province is at 16% – twice the national average
