Business Profile
TalentEgg is a job board and online career resource for students and new graduates, providing them with access to meaningful student and entry level career opportunities. Employers use TalentEgg to attract, target and recruit Canada’s top student and new graduate talent.
My Story
As a young graduate herself, Lauren Friese understood the difficulty of moving from full-time student to full-time worker when she graduated from Queen’s University. So, she opted to pursue the next level of her education by moving to London, England and earned a Master’s Degree from the London School of Economics. It was there that she found the tools to make a smooth, successful transition into the workplace after discovering an on-line resource that went well beyond on-campus recruiting and traditional job-boards.
Knowing this type of service didn’t exist in Canada, Lauren made the decision to launch the Canadian model of the U.K. site and called it TalentEgg Inc. Of course, financial assistance and business guidance were needed to get things started and Futurpreneur Canada was there to assist with funding and pairing her with a Futurpreneur Canada mentor, Carm Maesano.
Since launching in April, 2008, TalentEgg has worked with hundreds of employers and, in the last year alone, more than 1.8 million students and grads have used TalentEgg to help launch their careers. The satisfaction of owning her own business comes from being constantly challenged and emotionally affected by her day-today work. Lauren now understands the difference between working at a business and running a business and can navigate business challenges thanks to the valuable business advice from her Futurpreneur mentor, Carm Maesano.
Above all, Lauren’s confidence has been boosted which will undoubtedly translate into more success for TalentEgg and Canada’s new graduates.
Advice
“Having someone who is emotionally, but not financially attached to your business, who has experience in your field, and who is constantly involved without being involved day-to-day is incredibly valuable. Having a mentor is like having a personalized business consultant – the kind that some companies pay millions of dollars for!”
